Engaged provides a unique perspective on the state of our civic life today and why it matters to democracy. It explores key aspects of engagement through personal stories, vignette’s from the Shaw neighborhood in Washington, DC, and inspiring examples of those who are trying to make a difference. Engaged speaks to all Americans — veterans, entrepreneurs, religious leaders, community organizers, educators, parents, and everyday citizens — who want to make a difference in the country we all love.

“Ours is a nation built on pride in sacrifice and commitment to shared values — on a willingness of our citizens to give of their time and energy for the good of the whole” — Senator John McCain

“Refreshing writing, compelling just-in-time story telling, and rich data reveals. Andrew captures this historical dawn we all are sorting--by throwing light and expanding aperture--through a reassuring lens.”

Sommers has struck a chord which ALL Americans need to hear. A careful and deeply personal exploration of where we are as a country, Engaged is moving and inspiring. As John Boyd famously said To Be or To Do... Sommers is asking us all To Do on behalf of our country!
